One of the must-try restaurants in Vancouver.
Our first impression
It was a cold and pouring rainy evening as usual in Vancouver winter.
Heading to our target restaurant in that weather was entirely not a pleasant experience for us. However, when we were arriving at the destination, we knew that we made the right choice.
When on our way to the restaurant, the surrounding area brought us a nostalgic feeling. Walking down the street from Water Front Station, it would make us have the sense of going back in time and getting lost in an ancient Europe town.
The restaurant was finally in front of us. It was quite a big restaurant in the downtown area. In the gloomy, rainy evening, the shimmering light outside the restaurant made it even more outstanding and beautiful. Along with that was a little romantic if you were there as a couple. It was such a picturesque, dreamy view and we could not wait to get inside.
Atmosphere and Décor
When we were inside the restaurant, the receptionists were friendly greeting us. When sitting at the table next to the window, we could look out of the window and watch people passing by in the pouring rain. All of those created a romantic and perfect setting for dinner. It was such a cozy, warm-hearted and welcoming atmosphere that not only brought by the service but also from the brown, wooded environment of the restaurant.
Except for the booming crowd inside the restaurant, The Old Spaghetti Factory is a must – visit place if you are looking for a restaurant in central Vancouver.
The Old Spaghetti Factory divided into different space sections. Inside each section area, they have different table sizes for various purposes of visiting.
This is a suitable and ideal spot for family or friend gathering on the weekend or holidays or special occasions like celebrations. Besides, they also have a bar lounge area for drinking.
You can spend time relaxing and chatting after finishing your dinner at the restaurant.
The Old Spaghetti Factory has a style of an old – fashion architecture with most of woody, vintage decorations: tables and chair, woody wine barrels, drink cabinets, etc. It makes the guest feel like they are sitting in a western cowboy town in a Hollywood movie. The woody color of the furniture and facilities inside the restaurant perfectly matches with the antique lightning from the chandeliers on the ceiling used to light up the restaurant. In addition, the stained glass displays on the walls make the whole view more stunning than ever.
Once coming to this restaurant, you would never forget the impression the restaurant giving you. It is a big electronic trolley car standing in the middle of the restaurant. This is a special “seat” of the restaurant and if you are lucky enough, you can book reservation to have your meal inside it. No other places in town can compare to this uniqueness. This special “seat” is also the origin of the mysterious ghost – story mentioned above since its establishment. But don’t worry, the spirits will not wander around and they are kind enough to let you finish your dinner.
Food’s quality and taste
There are many choices for me on the menu in The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant.
I chose the Clam Chowder Soup as my appetizer.
This soup is made with bacon, onion, potato, lots of clams and I can feel that all of the ingredients are very fresh, especially the clam. The specific taste of many clams, the salty taste of bacon and the creamy potatoes blend to create a perfect, delicious appetizer.
This soup helps stimulate my taste buds for the main dish, and I highly recommend you to try this soup once.
For the entrée, I have Spaghetti with Meatballs, which is a highlight of the restaurant. This dish had hand-rolled meatballs served with Italian marinara sauce and topped with fresh parmesan cheese. When the pasta comes, it is hot, and there is a perfect proportion of sauce and noodle. They also offer cheese you can put on top of your pasta which is the cherry on top! Meatballs are one of my favourite dishes so eating it with a special sauce of the restaurant is a great combination. The noodles were cooked to the perfect tenderness and tasty (entirely different from the instant noodles I often buy). It was a nice dish, but the serving size was a bit too big for me, so I was full and not sure if I could eat the dessert.
Last but not least, I got their Spumoni Ice Cream, which is chocolate, pistachio, and vanilla ice cream. It is pretty good ice cream with various flavour together but a little bit too sweet for me. And, I was too full so it melted before I finished it.
We dined in The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant with an empty stomach, and after that, we all feel full and quite satisfied. Each of us paid from $25 to $30 for three dishes on the menu, which is very reasonable and inexpensive. My appetizer, which is Clam Chowder Soup was just $2.50; my entrée was $15.75, and especially, my dessert was FREE because of Dine out Vancouver Festival. The nutrition and serving size of each dish is complete, and it is impossible to leave this restaurant hungry. My experience in The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant was really impressive, and I definitely recommend this restaurant for people who are looking for a place to dine out with delicious, reasonable food in Vancouver.
The restaurant’s background
The Old Spaghetti Factory is an Italian-style chain restaurant in the United States and Canada. The U.S. restaurants are owned by OSF International, based in Portland, Oregon, while the Canadian restaurants are owned by The Old Spaghetti Factory Canada Ltd.
The Canadian chain has 15 Old Spaghetti Factories in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario. The restaurant we went to is in Gastown that has existed for nearly 50 years. The most unique antique is definitely the trolley car that sits in the front of the restaurant. It was built by the BC Electric Railway Company in 1904. Mr. Ernie Les Plant saved the car from destruction and later loaned it to The Old Spaghetti Factory where it has remained for the last 49 years.
How can you know the restaurant you visit has a deficiency of cleanliness?
The cleanliness and hygiene in the restaurants’ industry are important because it can reduce the risk of food poisoning.
Sometimes, the accident happened such as a waiter’s hair accidentally drop into the food or fingernails or the dirty dishes.
Therefore, as our professor said ” when you walk into a dirty restaurant’s washroom, you can probably assume the restaurant doesn’t pay enough attention to their cleanliness.”
In other words, the customers should pay some attention to the waiter and waitress’s personal hygiene and the restaurant environment such as tableware and cups.
The day our team visit The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant was a busy Friday night.
Luckily, The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant is Ok.
I think our team had excellent service in The Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant because this was our FIRST time attended Dine out Vancouver event.
Personally, I think maybe I gave too much credit to this restaurant because it certainly was not meet my expectation when you just too excited about the food you are going to eat.
The dessert was too sweet for me.
Thankfully, the service was terrific, so that increased the comment I give to this restaurant.
Integration of modern food and beverage trends
In this day and age, with the development of Food and Beverage, more and more new “trends” have been created. The Old Spaghetti Factory is not the exception to follow those trends. They have a wide range of Food and Beverage categories updated from time to time.
On the first hand, this restaurant provides you with more cuisine options even though their main cuisine type is Italian food. Not only traditional Italian cuisines were being served, but there are also several types of creations from the menu as well. The unique trend they follow is health protection. Since health and life quality are becoming great concerns for the modern lifestyle, food quality and nutrition are becoming more important to people.
Understand that, this restaurant offers you a healthy “gluten-free” menu with modified items from the original recipes . Besides, they also have Kid’s, and Group Menu enhanced so that every guest targets can be satisfied with more wide-ranging options.
On the other hand, the Beverage section is also important to them. The healthy drinking “trend” also appears in their menu called “Alcohol-free Beverage” Menu .
Furthermore, there is the “Daily drink” menu available as well if you are confused about what to choose among their list of drinking items . Besides those special menus, this restaurant has a lot more drinking options for their guests, for example, wines, beers, cocktails along with classic drinks.
Food and beverage are not the only factors to attract the guest coming more often to The Old Spaghetti Factory. With the involvement of high technology, the revenue, as well as the reputation of the restaurant, significantly rises. Living in a high – tech era, the guests can book their meal online reservation or order through the restaurant’s website as well as supportive applications, such as doordash.com, without going directly to the restaurant.
Also, social media, such as Facebook or Instagram, plays an essential role in the advertisement. Those technical advances have effectively improved and changed the restaurant’s food and beverage business.
When we try to savour our meals and drinks, I notice something wrong. There has a straw in my sweet Pina colada. Usually, it looks convenient for individual’s drink, but the problem comes from here.
According to Hugh, plastic straws can become a massive issue for the environment. Based on the survey, there have 500 million straws in the USA daily. This is shock news. There are some reasons why plastic straws are the worst for the environment.
The plastic straw s are hard to recycle. Although it comes from type 5 plastic and types five plastic can convert, recycling programs do not accept plastic straws. Therefore, plastic straws finish up in junkyards or pollute in the ocean. In the second place, it is harmful to ocean wildlife. When seashore is cleaned up, it is undoubtedly that plastic straw becomes one of the top litter. Moreover, there has evidence when experts try to take out the plastic straw from the sea turtle’s nose. Meanwhile, more than one million seabirds vanish because they swallow plastic.
