Today, we want to introduce to you guys an amazing Italian restaurant that we had chance to visit, Sopra Sotto Pizzeria. In Italian, “Sopra” means up and “Sotto” means “down”. This name is to tribute the Roma Coffee where Co-founder Janine’s grandparents used to come here after work to relax. Its concept is based on the cooking of an Italian old lady, and a farmer-style menu pays tribute to slow food, which uses many ingredients sourced directly from Drive.
The restaurant was created in order to count on the tastes of the authenticity of the Italian dining table. This is also how they pay tribute to the surroundings that brought them up, as well as the simple but natural food that fed them at home.
Executive chef Enrico Fratoni, a native of Turin, Italy, creates traditional Italian dishes in a 90-seater location. Guests can expect culinary creations that include wood-fired pizza, snacks, pastas and desserts in the restaurant.
The sauces of the restaurant are simmered for few hours to get to the right flavor. Similarly, the pizza dough is prepared before being proceeded 2 days so that it will create a lighter meal.

QUALITY /TASTE/ VALUE
Sopra Sotto has a simple menu with white background which makes it more quality and comfortable. The material of menu is paper, they don’t use any picture inside and the format is very minimal. Also we can see that the restaurant’s menu doesn’t have a dollar sign and have good descriptions for every dish. Recommended foods include chitarrine al ragù (square spaghetti with Bolognese sauce), porchetta e friarielli pizza (homemade porchetta, boneless fried pork), Italian broccoli with slave and mozzarella (ladybugs soaked in espresso, grated mask).
The dining room also has a large number of beverages that guests can combine with their dishes, such as Italian wines, cocktails, imported bottled beer and local draft beer. They even have the non-alcoholic and coffee and tea for people couldn’t have alcoholic liquor.
In Sopra Sotto, they also have Happy Hour Menu for both locations. The happy hour starts from 2 to 5 p.m daily.
Sopra Sotto even allow their customers to decide their own menu for special occasions. You only need to contact them and they will help you to put together a menu for you.
Quality and Space
The restaurant has an elegant and classy ambience with the combination of wood grain and metal element. The wallpaper with a delicate print in antique turquoise with high-ceiling create an inviting atmosphere. During the day, the restaurant is full of natural light which creates an up-beat energy while in the evening, the place has a cozy and warm tone that’s perfect for a date night or dinner with family. Every place in the restaurant, from comfortable banquets to high bar stools, offers a view of the large wood-fired pizza oven.
The restaurant is very neat and tidy. Although that day was a busy night for the restaurant due to the event, the space was still clean. As soon as customers leave, the table was cleaned by the servers right away. The open kitchen was so clean and nice, all chefs have a lot of space for walking and convenient cooking. Аll cooking items were in place, there were a lot of blanks, which allowed the cooks to spend less time on cooking. Also the bar has a large wall with neatly exposed bottles, all mixers and glasses were clean, the bartender was always neat and tidy with drinks. All drinks and dishes were prepared and served with special love, which made them even tastier.
Greeting from Turin in northern Italy, Chef Fratoni brings a sense of authenticity and tradition to the table. The pasta is simple and healthy – pasta is baked with cheese in a creamy cabbage and mushroom sauce, and short-sized pasta, with ruffles, are covered with mixed chickpeas and sprinkled with breadcrumbs. “My grandmother used to do this,” says Fratoni. It would be an omission not to order one of the dozen pizzas on offer – at least for the spectacle.
We only ordered 2 dishes of pizza and pasta for 3 people: Porchetta e Friarielli Pizza and Caserecce e Tartufo Pasta.
Pizza plays a big role in the Pizzeria and it is one of the important dishes on the menu. Sopra Sotto has a very interesting pizza cooking strategy that gives people a lot of interest to try.
Porchetta e Friarielli Pizza is a homemade Porchetta which is a savory, moist and boneless pork roast, Italian broccoli rabe and mozzarella.
Caserecce e Tartufo Pasta is short twists of in-house-made pasta, served in a truffle sauce featuring a variety of mushrooms and topped with parmigiano – an Italian hard and granular cheese.
Both of the dishes were very delicious. The pasta definitely tasted homemade and fresh, perfect temperature and texture but the sauce was a little lacking in flavor. The aroma of the truffle was immediately noticeable but the sauce itself could stand to be a bit more rich. The pizza’s texture was amazing. It’s soft yet still very crispy at the pizza dough. The toppings went so well with the cheese on top.
The price at the end was not very expensive. It’s pretty affordable according to the quality of foods and the service here.
For drinks, we chose a cocktail: Aperol Spritz and a mocktail: Basil Berry
Aperol Spritz is, in fact, a famous cocktail in Italy which is usually served as apéritif ( an alcoholic drink taken before a meal to stimulate the appetite). It was made from aperol (a classic Italian bitter apéritif), Prosecco ( an Italian sparkling wine) mixed with soda and a slice of orange. Basil Berry’s ingredients: muddle strawberries, basil and sugar, that makes the taste of the mocktail fresher and sweeter. Lemon juice inside mocktail makes it a little bit sour. And top of mocktail with club soda and fresh basil leaves.
This Italian cocktail matched very well with two dishes we ordered. The sweet, sour and a little bitter taste of this drink definitely made the pizza and especially the pasta more tasty and delicious. Moreover, the alcoholic percentage of Aperol Spritz is perfect for you to savour the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. Basil Berry also goes well with pizza or pasta. In addition, the restaurant has a large selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
The price of two drinks weren’t high for those quality drinks.
All the servers are very friendly and hospitable with us. They answered all of our questions with patience and enthusiasm. They took our orders with a positive attitude. They also great at making suggestions. They bring both dishes at the same time what very good for fine dining restaurant. Their work uniform looked neat and austere, which created coziness and comfort.
Sopra Sotto corporates with Foodee – a food delivery company to bring their food to your home. Beside that, they also present on many others delivery company so that you can choose what’s convenient for you.
We would definitely come back here again for another gourmet dinner.
