Location, Ambience & Theme
Some of our friends are vegetarian, so we decided why not try something new. Thus, we planned to visit the restaurant, Meet in Gastown. The restaurant is in Gastown, approximately a 10-minute walk from the Waterfront station. MeeT Restaurants were founded 6 years back by three restaurant alumni. The restaurant has three locations in Vancouver that are Yaletown, Gastown and Main street. It is known to be one of the best vegan restaurants in Vancouver. A place like this is a must-visit.
On reaching the restaurant we saw a beautiful open seating area with rustic red and white themed seating beautifully decorated with fairy lights. It gave a very cozy and romantic feel for the ones who are looking for a great evening or a good option for lunch. It is surely the preferred sitting for evenings, just not good on rainy days.
As it was a rainy day, so we decided to sit indoors to enjoy the cushy aura of the restaurant. Once you step in you might have to wait for approx. 30 minutes because the restaurant is busy at the weekends. Just be prepared to wait, if you are planning to visit these days. Finally, when our turn arrived, we were welcomed by the hostess and in a very friendly manner, she escorted us to our table. While walking in we saw an open kitchen near the seating and a bar on the end.
The restaurant followed a blend of modern and rustic theme creating a charming place to sit. The ambiance of the restaurant is predominantly seen through furniture, decor, and lighting. The theme very well justified the mission statement of providing a friendly and engaging venue for dinners to spend some quality time with our friends and family and your special ones.
MeeT offers a wide range of choices for a drink – from wine to beer to non-alcoholic. As none of us is a big fan of alcohol, we decided to go with 3 different drinks from the refreshingly non-alcoholic section. It did not take them long to have our drinks ready. They all came out of the same size but different colors.
House-made Ginger Shrub Beer
For the first drink, it was a nice combination of fresh ginger root and apple cider vinegar. It was sour at first and had a distinctly biting, warm ginger flavor remains at our throats at the end. Not recommended for those who do not like ginger but if you want to try ginger shrub, we would highly suggest having it without ice.
House-made Hibiscus Limeade
We had expected more for the Hibiscus Limeade, but it failed us. It was hibiscus the main ingredient, so we did expect to chew some dried hibiscus flowers in it. However, the drink was just simply a mixture of water, lime and a bit of wild hibiscus syrup. We can only taste the sour of the lime itself. It had a dominant flavor of lime but very less flavor of hibiscus. From our perspective, it was not preferred and not value for money.
Fresh Filtered Soda Water & a Splash of Fresh Juice (Cranberry)
Moving on to our last choice – the filtered soda water & a splash of fresh juice, there are many options of fresh juice, but we picked cranberry. This drink was ok but not impressive. It had the same color and flavor as a hibiscus drink. We did not expect much as well as it was just a good blend of soda, lemon, and cranberry. Frankly to say, if we were to compare these 3 drinks, we would vote for fresh filtered soda water & a splash of fresh juice.
Overall, we would not recommend trying non-alcoholic drinks. The garnishing and the presentation were tempting but the taste was not that good and impressive. We found a lot of good comments about their beer from other guests’ reviews, so try it for the drink if you wonder what to have and for us, we would also give it a shot next time we go to MeeT.
Food is definitely the USP of the restaurant. It’s simply amazing and delicious. We ordered 3 main dishes and 1 dessert.
If you love noodles and if Thai curry is your taste of food, then this might be a dish that can be your reason to be at this restaurant and you won’t regret ordering it. We ordered Noodle-Y-Thai and we were excited and can’t wait to see how it looked like. The first impression says it all and we believe that strongly. The colorful garnish of freshly chopped vegetables made the dish look so healthy and tempting. Well cooked noodles with a taste of little sweetness and spiciness is a perfect blend of taste for all. The tossed fresh vegetables, bean sprouts give you the feel of crunch. The dish has nuts and dry fruits tossed in almond Thai curry which works as a change of taste and adds more value to the dish. Their alternative of meat for this dish is marinated organic tofu which goes with the flavor very well, in fact, that good, that a meat lover might choose this over meat for once.
Good to Know – Almond Thai Sauce Contain Gluten
And Yes, we had that one friend, as we all have in our group who can’t stay away from ordering Butter Chikkin and of course we love that too, so we supported his food ordering decision. But Butter Chicken without Chicken? Isn’t it weird? This dish comes as a platter in a good portion. The sauce is a rich tomato gravy with a combination of rich cream cooked with beyond meat and served with brown rice which a component of healthy food here, which balances out the diet to a great extent.
The dish is sweet and encouraging for all who love Butter Chikkin (Beyond Meat). The dish is served with a Papadum (Thin Indian Crispy Bread made with seasoned dough and use dry heat method to cook). If you are thinking this is the best combo you can get? So, you need to wait for the second accompaniment which is a Bombay Curried Salsa (A chopped salad with herbs and spices is a tangy taste, origin from Bombay as known as Mumbai in India).
Good to Know – The portion is only for one person for a complete meal.
Could do Better – Can look for an alternative of rice. But they serve you organic quinoa at a very less differential amount.
The Double – Double (Burger)
The burger is also known as double bacon (Beyond meat) and double cheese. It has a signature burger patty which makes it pretty clear that it doesn’t have a double patty for a big hunger but double the size, which is easy to eat with a double the amount of cheese which is attractive and the best part is when you love to have extra cheese and bacon meat (Beyond meat) why to pay extra dollars? This is a great combo comes with fries. The magic of beyond meat in the taste of bacon is almost the same as bacon.
I feel the dessert makes the place To Go Again restaurant. The restaurant has kept this dessert in a small portion like any other dessert with a decent garnish of a green leaf over the crisp baked brown layer of croutons. Glazed with brown sugar coating outside. It is filled with a decadent coconut Bavarian cream.
Good to Know – Need to get it hot on your table and make sure you have it as quickly as possible.
Integration Of Emerging Food & Beverage Trends
Now you surely know that MeeT is a Vegan restaurant! All the items we ordered were simply delicious and we are sure other items on menu will be great as well. An entire vegan menu made with fresh ingredients all from scratch and that too with an amazing blast of flavors is surely one of the emerging trends being followed by MeeT. Their food is value for price, healthy, nourishing and on the top ‘Fresh’. This is definitely the Unique Selling Point (USP) of the restaurant.
We have no words to describe the service delivered by MeeT but “excellent”. From the very first moment we walked through the door till we left, we were satisfied with both the food and service. The servers were friendly, patient, attentive, and helpful. Although they were incredibly busy on Friday night, they came regularly to check on us. So, whether it is your first time to eat there, ask the servers – they are the experts.
Cleaning and Sustainability
Despite being busy, the restaurant maintained high standards of cleaning. The staff was very active in clearing the crockery and cutlery as soon as the dishes were consumed, and tables were wiped there and then within a blink of an eye, the cutleries were replaced with the new ones. That was really impressive. Also while checking with the staff we also found that the restaurant aims to help the environment. They try to reduce food waste by growing their food from scratch. She also added that they encouraged guests to take any leftovers back home as it helps in reducing food wastage. Also, they use environmentally friendly recyclable take out containers for takeout.
