The Praguery Food Truck

Praguery – “Taste of traditional in every bite”

at 900W Cordova Street

With evolving and fast-paced lifestyles of the Metrotown population, the food business and outlets have taken a drastic change in their services. Food trucks are one such innovation of the recent past that has got people crazy. These trucks can serve fast food at convenient places. There are multiple options to dine multiple cuisines on the side of busy streets and pay much less in comparison to classy restaurants. Apparently being a recent immigrant in Vancouver I’ve never got a chance to try any food truck before. So, my friend introduced us to this food truck named Praguery , located near the exit of Skyline station at Waterfront. The truck parks in front of the park and there were not many people when I first got there. The first thing that we experienced was funky music and the bright green colour truck serving a huge variety of desserts and ice creams.

We arrived at the location in the evening, the truck was not much crowded, and we were happy to expect our order really quickly. The menu was quite elaborate with so many unique options, mainly ice cream and other frozen desserts. Since it was our first time with a food truck, we were quite confused so we asked the operator for any recommendations or their signature ice cream flavor, and the friendly operator with a warm smile recommended “Mr. Berry” and explained the concept which is clearly seen from their slogan which is “traditional taste in every bite”. We tried “Prague O.G.” & “Mr. Berry” which was a traditional vanilla ice cream with a new baked cone covered with brown sugar. The concept of fast service was well served as we got our order ready in roughly 2 minutes.

We must say that the taste is very traditional with an essence of vanilla bean along with some berry syrup on top. What surprised us was the cone called chimney cake, a very unique and fancy way of serving a dessert.  The cake is new on the menu and bestselling as per their sales figure. The item is served with a paper cup and a small spoon to reduce the dripping. However, it might get sloppy if you don’t finish it fast enough. Under in the middle of the ice cream is fresh berry jaw. Its sourness acts as a perfect balance to the rich and sweetness of the ice cream itself.

In my opinion, the ice cream is quite tasty. However, there are a few minus points to it. The first thing is the chimney cake was advertised to be crunchy. However, by the time you eat a decent amount of ice cream, the cake turned soft. Moreover, personally, the chimney cake is too much for a person to handle. It’s quite a lot for a desert and makes you full if you have just finished your dinner.

In general, it is a place you could spend time with your friends or your beloved ones. We noticed that the place practices safe food handling practices. Because of Covid, we were quite skeptical to try the food at the food truck but to our surprise, proper safety precautions were maintained by the team at Praguery.

The service at the food truck was very quick and they were very friendly and helped us in choosing by understanding what would suit our taste buds. They are very sensitive to customer preferences and dietary restrictions. The food is good value for money as it is freshly made and the menu is curated keeping the dietary restrictions and customer preferences in mind so that they can cater to any type of customer.

I would like to taste their rotation specials mainly because of the fancy decoration and would also love to try the vegan cones as it was quite fascinating to see how an ice cream cone could be made completely dairy-free with such attractive variations.

Jaroslav Mestka, known as Jaro (Yaro) owns the food truck. The truck has been in business since 2016.

Their marketing slogan is “Traditional taste in every bite”. The truck uses different practices to promote their business like social media marketing – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. They constantly update their social media handles about their new flavours and also update the timings for their truck at different locations. In this way they constantly are in touch with their clients and promote their business by uploading attractive discount offers and other product details.
