Dine Out Vancouver -Intro

Every year Tourism Vancouver hosts an unusual event that is featuring for the local restaurants from January 17th to February 4th.This event is called “Dine out Vancouver.” This year is taken place from January 19th to February 4th(“Dine Out Vancouver Festival,” 2018). Normally, “Dint out Vancouver” is the most famous restaurants’ event in Canada during the whole year. Hundreds of restaurants will promote their 3-course menus at a great price during the event period. The price ranges are usually from $20 to $40, which are choices for the guests. The lists of restaurants of the event are including some region’s best and most popular restaurants (“Tourism Vancouver’s dine out”, 2018). Dine out Vancouver is a good deal for all guests who want to try foods in Vancouver. Dine out Vancouver also benefits for hotels because the hotels can attract the travelers to come to hotels’ restaurants to try their foods, and they also promote their hotels by lowering the room rate.

Mamie Taylor’s introduction

This year, our group chooses Mamie Taylor’s from the list of Dine out Vancouver. Mamie Taylor’s is located in 251 East Georgia St, Vancouver since 2013(Mamie Taylor,n.d.). It is a very new restaurant. The restaurant opens every day from 5 pm to midnight. In addition to this, they offer brunch on the weekend start at 11 am. Mamie Taylor’s is a new modern American restaurant, and there are many unique decorations in the restaurant. The concept of Mamie Taylor’s is “We try and make delicious thing out of ingredient. We also have taxidermy and vegetables.(Mamie Taylor,n.d.)” Typically, they offer beer, wine, cocktails, vegetarian options, happy hour food and late-night food. Moreover, they also provide a set menu for groups of 8+ people. There are three different price levels of the set menu which are $38, $48 and $55 (per person). Mamie Taylor’s has their official website and other social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They keep updating their social media frequently. Customers can follow their social media to see the newest offering of the restaurant.

Atmosphere

(This shows the entrance of the restaurant)

The atmosphere in Mamie is classic Canadian style with the deer head hung high up on the wall. The painting and decoration on the walls help Mamie set the traditional environment and express a creative point of view of the restaurant. When we walk into the restaurant, Mamie is very clean and organized, and even the bathroom is well maintained.

The shared table and chair allow the restaurant to pack in more people while encouraging customers to engage in social interactions and make new friends. Mamie also has a good beverage menu design, and the menu is stain free. The menu is easy to read and understand. It also reflects the atmosphere of Mamie.

Several points make us feel unsatisfied. The music made us feel relaxed before 7, but the music becomes loud and fast after 7.It doesn’t fit the size of the room, and we have to speak loud to hear each other which sounds like we are staying in the bar. According to Stefanie Tuder, the lighting should comfort the customer (2016). However, the light is too dark to read the beverage’s menu. Moreover, the staff is not friendly, helpful and they barely interacted with us. For example, we waited around twenty minutes before we could let her know that we didn’t get our main entrees. It would have been nice for them to approach us and do the usual things like asking how our dishes were. Mamie needs to improve their customer service, or they will lose the customers.

Foods

We are excited about the dishes that we are going to eat because we have never tried Mamie before. The first meal is an appetizer, which is served as family style, with four different kinds of food. The layout is traditional western food style (“Mamie’s low,” 2018). The most delicious one is “the devilled egg” which tastes sweet and salty. The parsley in the appetizer needs to improve because it is so hard to chew. (The cooking method might be the reason of hard chewing). Honestly, we think it does not reach our expectation.

After we have done with appetizer, the server brings the main course to us. It is “roasted whole suckling pig” with several side dishes (“Mamie’s low,” 2018). It shows as shredded meat and it tastes good. The chef put right amount condiments and oil that the meat is not greasy and not salty. Overall, we evaluate this “roasted whole suckling pig” the most delicious food among the others. When we have finished with the meat, we want to try some vegetables to balance tastes. However, the cauliflowers are super sour. Based on our discussion, the chef may put too much white vinegar on it. Or this is the western traditional culinary method to cook the side dish. Even so, we still want to grade 90 out of 100 for the main course.

Finally, the dessert is served. It is “baked apple pie” with vanilla ice cream on it (“Mamie’s low,” 2018). The ice cream is perfect for dessert, but the apple pie is not that tasty. The surface of apple pie is a little bit burnt, and the flavor of apple pie is overly sweet. The dessert we preferred was tasted the not that much heavy sugar flavor. Therefore, we did not finish with this apple pie. In overall, we would not recommend Mamie for dine out Vancouver.
